When you order your Fresh Chairs, you have three finish styles to choose from: the Natural Oak Finish, the Homestead Collection and the Richmond Collection.  Any chair style can be done in any of the finish styles.

With the Natural Oak Finish, hand rubbed linseed oil enhances the character of the wood and allows it to develop a rich patina with time.   The Natural Finish chairs are at home in any interior from casual to formal.

The sample on the right is called "First Poplar."  It has seven layers of color and it comes from the color that poplar leaves turn in the late summer.  First Poplar is one of the newer color schemes.

"Summer Morning" is similar to Summer White, but it has a blue base coat that shows through at the edges of each facet.

"Earth and Sky":  In Winter, you can look at the horizon later in the day and see the colors of this chair.  The bare trees are a reddish brown and the clear sky has a bit of a red cast to it.

"Barley Field":  In the late Winter, the tall, dry grasses in the field are different colors of tan and burnt orange.  On warmer days, the green of the new growth compliments those earthy colors.  This is a three color combination

Salem Red and Bayberry.  Not all color schemes have artistic names, but this is a nice combination.  There's a guy that drives an old pickup truck that has the red paint worn through to the green underneath.  It looks good.  My neighbor borrowed an old dog house that had the same worn-through color combo.

Poplar:  This is three colors- brown underneath, then yellow, then green in the corners and in the texture.

Chairs from the Homestead Collection are meant to emulate chairs with a long loving history.  Exposed layers of milk paint highlight the octagonal facets of the parts and the honest tool marks of the maker.  Seats are woven with random widths and batches of hickory bark.  Most color combinations involve either two or three colors.  The chair rungs often include the wiggles where the grain of the wood grew around knots in the tree.  These naturally occurring curves add to the composition of the design and enhance the individual character of each chair.

Some of the Homestead Collection color combinations are shown here in these sample frames.  You may click on the image to enlarge it.

On the left is "Favorite Jeans."   Over the years, this has been one of the most popular colors.

This combination is called "Summer White"

In the Fall, some of the leaves of the Sweet Gum trees turn a pale yellow.  Some of them turn a scarlet red and some of them turn a red so dark that it as almost black.  Those colors influenced the finish of this chair.  There is a subtle green under layer.  This is my new favorite.

If you are in the woods in the summer and look toward the sun early or late in the day, the trees are silhouetted and their trunks all look the same shadowy color.  And, of course, the leaves are all green.  This chair is called "Forest Silhouette."

Green and White:  This was one of my early color combinations.  The Tennessee State Museum purchased a Settin' Chair in this color and the Armchair that was awarded Best of Show in the 2004 TACA Best of Tennessee Exhibition.

The Richmond Collection of chairs are at home in a more formal setting.  Seats are woven from fine layers of inner hickory bark.  The weavers are dyed black to show off the weave pattern. The finish on the chair frame is two layers of milk paint.  The lighter hue of the base color is seen through a darker outer layer and subtly reveals the refined tool marks.
